Slovenia Italy Tour 2019 - 2

We left Montecatini early so we could get to Lake Como where we stayed in Varenna. The drive there was in pouring rain until we got closer, then it was lovely. Our VRBO person met us in the square - she works here - and lead us to her home just above the shore. It was by a train track that goes around the lake, so it was a little noisy, but not too bad (except in the middle of the night...) ;)

The parking place for the car was on a steep incline, and cordoned off by chains/poles.  She pulled the pole out of the road and laid it to the side so we'd know where to park. We were still trying to figure out how the car worked, and this incline was the perfect way to find out if the car rolled when you took the brake off. Ask Dad about it.  *Note about the car: We nearly didn't pay the insurance at the rental place... at the last second, David went back in and paid the extra. Good thing - we ended up scraping against a curb on a wild day driving in Pisa, so there was a scratch about 24" long under the side doors.

This tree had the most amazing bark - I believe it's  London Plane tree.

We went exploring, then took a boat ride to Bellagio, then wandered there. Everything was steep - hard to get the sense of it in pictures...

Varenna from a distance.

Lynne found the most delicious cheese, and Dad got the salami. I don't think I've ever eaten that much by itself - it sure was delicious!
This is the kind of ferry we rode to Bellagio.

Relaxing in Bellagio...

And the ride back to Varenna...

Walking back to the car from the pier. The sky was amazing. Jupiter!

We had dinner at a local restaurant recommended by our host. It was pretty awful. We learned our lesson.

And yes, there was lots of gelato.  :)
